Would welcome any insight others may have I’ve seen a fair bit of discussion about subject lines in headers but not much about the ability to geolocation someone via their email activity.
The more I learn about what information you can dig up from online activity, the more stress this is giving me. It’s none of my clients business whether I’m replying to their emails in Vegas or New York or China. I am still relatively new to privacy but it’s quite unsettling that people can track where you are by your emails. In terms of geolocation, would using a VPN be enough to mask my location, or would it still list my end location on the header in the list of “hops” the email made along its path?
I do not like the idea of a recipient knowing geographically where and what time zone I sent/received an email and am looking to take steps, where possible, to protect my privacy.Īs I understand it, the email providers gets the time zone you sent/received email from your device? Not sure if that’s correct or not, but I’ve changed my computers time zone nonetheless.
